In the 90s, during his work at the Hydro-Québec’s Research Institute (IREQ), Dr. Pierre Couture has developed the concept and realized a new design of the electric in-wheel motor which aroused great interest, especially in Quebec because of its absolutely revolutionary performance. This technology is now considered by many experts as one of the best motorization systems in the world.

Long before the in-wheel motor development, Dr. Couture has developed the concept of electric suspended monorail. The three main objectives that have guided Dr. Couture in the development of this concept are:

  1. significantly low construction costs per kilometer compared to a high-speed train (TGV);
  2. develop a transport system adapted to regions with low population density;
  3. develop a transport system adapted to our winters.

The idea of founding a cooperative to materialize the high speed monorail has existed for many years and MGV Coop is a tangible expression of that will. More and more people now believe that this project represents a truly feasible transport solution, financially affordable and can generate major economic and social development in Quebec and Canada.

T.V. series “Découverte” by Radio-Canada on April 7, 2013 shows the benefits of MGV: Un monorail Québec/Montréal? (in French only)
